Care for a quick Gundam coffee?

Posted on 21 April 2010 by admin

If you ever drop by to stop for a coffee in a city during your lunch breaks, and the city you’re living happens to be Tokyo, do give this Gundam Cafe for a quick stop!

The store just recently opened up a week ago and it’s located down in Akihabara (see picture above).

It looks like just any cafe shop you normally see within the shopping areas of CBD.  With a bit of ‘Gundam’ feel  of course!

Everything from Gundam ensignias, military-style tapestry and all wall layouts seem to be moulded out of Gundam Unicorn’s armor?  Hmm maybe it’s Gundam Unicorn in disguise as our favourite coffee place?!?  Lol.  Perhaps ^^.

Anywho,  if you’re wanting to find its exact location, here’s their official web page and there’s a little map you can on the first page screen. Their opening hours are from 8:30 to 5:00 Mons-Fris.  Apparently they do bar nights too until before midnight.

So definitely worth to check out.

Odaiba Gundam Statue won best design awards.

Posted on 28 November 2009 by admin

Real Gundam Robot

Gundam Statue in Odaiba Park before being dismantled in early September this year

Reading a couple of anime feeds from ANN.com, I can see that several bloggers posted a lot on how Gundam won one of the best awards in Japan in the category of art and design.

For the team of Green Tokyo Gundam, they sure certainly deserve a great praise by the public.  A very honourable praise.  Good on them for their outstanding achievement!!   With so many Gundam bloggers online, it’s difficult to see how such a ‘recreational’ figure (why I call it recreational it’s because technically it was part of Odaiba parks’ recreational activities) that’s been crafted to such extraordinary lengths.

And it won’t be long before Tetsujin 28 statue will have its turn to get nabbed for award nominations, since its unveil in early September October.

Not sure about its design potential though.  Maybe more comic potential?

Cool Shin Mazinger Z Tees in Shibuya

Posted on 11 September 2009 by admin

Shin Mazinger Ad Cover

After coming back from my holidays, I’d bet there’s plenty of things happening in the mecha world during my long absence. I was edging to find out how ‘new’ Mazinger Z series is going lately, now they’ve been on air since April this year. Apparently, the studio company, Dynamic Planning, has been pretty busy with selling the hit TV series in CDs, DVDs and Blue ray discs packages, seeing as so many online otaku ecommerce sites like Play-Asia.com and YesAsia.com got their hands on these copies. Several toy lines for series are on sale for quite some time now from the Soul of Chokogin series, just as my last post here.

After bumping into Shin Mazinger’s website (www.shin-mazinger.com), there’s wide white banner at the bottom of the page, saying there’s a great Go Nagai sale going in Shibuya, the fashion shopping capital of Tokyo, Japan. Having it aroused my mecha curiosity, I decided to have a peek for myself…

And sure enough… they got great arrays of Mazinger Z Tees in store.

If you click on this link, you will find there’s a few T-shirt galleries that belong to Go-Nagai’s, and they’re currently selling them at retail price of 6090 yen. Not sure how much is that in US (or NZ dollars), but I bet it’s still a lot, considering how expensive Tokyo is. (I came back from London and boy!! The shopping center over took me a major surprise!! :-/).
