Eva 2.0: Massive Responses from the Crowd so far…

Posted on 06 July 2009 by admin

Since it’s premiere release on the streets of Japan on 27th June 2009, hundreds and thousands of Evangelion fans turned out to gather around the country at cinema complexes in order to take the glimpse of the film, waiting very anxiously to see the film.

Looking at this trailer again, it’s pretty refreshing to see how much this story is changed, compared to the likes of the original 26-episode TV series and part of Ganaix’s plan is have the series condensed into a 4-part movie series delivered as tretralogy anime project, Rebuild of Evangelion. If any of you could recall, Evangelion 1.0: You are (not) alone was about Shinji Ikari who was on a journey to find more about his purpose in this mission to defeat the Angels and learning to confront his cold-hearted father, and there were several challenges awaiting for him once he started to pilot his Eva 01. It was a straight adaption of the orginal TV classics and Eva 2.0 is continuation of the story where Shinji will meet up with another child, Asuka Langely Shoryu and discovered several new Eva units which may not have appeared in the orginal TV series.

The public responded really well. It’s the highest grosssing film at Japan’s box office in the first weekend, ranked number one, boasting a gross figure over 512 million yen (USD $ 4 million). That’s expected, for sure.

And in a very odd twist, we have some die-hard fans even went throught the trouble of shooting the entire film using their camcorders while watching inside the theatre! I mean how fanatic could they be? It’s not doing any Evangelion fans out there any good if cinema complexes allow such activity… Spoiler potential.

Anywho, I guess it would be for me to check our local film festival organiser, if they ever gonna released Eva 2.0 in New Zealand.
